Destiny 2: Season of the Deep launched on May 23, 2023. Since there is no major DLC, this serves as the only campaign available in Season 21. The Into the Depths campaign has Guardians returning to Titan where Sloane is waiting. Over the course of the full season and campaign, Guardians will work to uncover the secrets that Titan holds which could help them in their conflict with The Witness.
Before you can begin the Into the Depths campaign for Season of the Deep, you must first complete the intro mission called The Descent. This mission will launch automatically the first time you launch Destiny 2 during Season 21. If for some reason you are not launched into it, you can find The Descent mission on the map of the H.E.L.M.
The mission itself is straightforward, requiring players to defeat Taken, Hive, and locate Sloane on Titan. One of the only tricky parts is the Silence the Battlesong objective that requires players to capture three plates. It can get a bit hairy, so Witherhoard is a great option for solo players who need some relief.
The final point where a Guardian could get caught up is the Align the Communication Array puzzle. Simply look down at the little monitor on each dish and notice there is a triangle. The inner part of the triangle represents the sweet spot, so simply interact with each dish until the screen turns from red to blue. When you’re done, it’s smooth sailing.
The first week of the Into the Depths campaign is an easy one but does introduce players to some of the systems they will see throughout the Season of the Deep. This includes the new Salvage seasonal activity, and a mission called ‘Operation Thunderbolt” shows off the seasonal gameplay loop as far as the campaign is concerned.
The Season of the Deep story is standard stuff. The Salvage activity includes matchmaking so you can basically sleep through that. However, the "Mayday, Mayday" mission does not include matchmaking, so it can be tricky if you're doing it solo. There are sections where add clearing is required, and also a boss fight with a Wizard. You'll want something with range for the Wizard. I used a Rocket Launcher with the Tracking Module perk and that worked fine.
There's nothing groundbreaking here, but it's worth noting that the Operation Fulgurite mission doesn't include matchmaking. You'll have a section with many Taken adds in the middle, so focus on weapons that can clear a room, and bring something that can take out mini bosses. The final fight is against a Knight, and it's three phases. Clear the adds and then damage through the first phase. Repeat a second time, saving your Super for the third phase if you're a solo player. the Deep Dive activity will be against the same boss if you're doing this on Week 3, but it has matchmaking so it's easy to complete.
Week 4 of the Into the Depths quest is another standard affair. The only deviation is that you'll be visiting Savathun's throne world to collect some Amorphous Alloys from the Scorn. A single public event did this for me, but if that doesn't do it for you just keep moving around and killing Scorn. You need 20, and this took me about five minutes. Once that's done, launch Deep Dive from the H.E.L.M. and complete it, then it's just a few conversations until you're done for the week.
Week 5 of the Into the Depths quest is probably the most important one to date. The story cutscene here finally reveals important details about the Witness, the Veil, and the Traveler, information that players have been longing for.
As for the quest steps, speaking with Hawthorne will get you a different quest, Fishing Rally: Throne World, but this is unrelated to the seasonal story and can wait until later. Keep in mind that the vendor can only hold 99 engrams, which will mean you cannot collect the reward and complete Step 34 if you're at the maximum.
This is the final quest step in the Season of the Deep questline, Into the Depths. It's a short one, with a couple of conversations and one quick mission to complete. The Barotrauma mission is launched via the map of the H.E.L.M. and requires players to defeat Hive and Taken and then dunk orbs. You know what to do.
Come back next week for the next steps in the Into the Depths quest, but until then visit our Destiny 2 strategy guide for more help with Season of the Deep and everything else Guardian related.
